Nigerian army repel Boko Haram attempt to capture Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

        Boko Haram attacked Maiduguri Sunday from different direction in an attempt to capture the city, triggering heavy fighting with Nigerian troops. A senior army officer said Boko Haram fighters were "everywhere" attacking from all four roafs leading to the populous city. Another officer said hundreds of Boko Haram fighrers as many as 500 , were killed befor they fled. Loud explosion and gunfire could be heard through out Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. Hundreds of civilians armed with hunting rifles and machetes were also reported to have join the army in confroting the insurgence. The attack came few days after the African union agreed to send 7,500 troops to fight and degrade Boko Haram.
