US defence secretary Chuck Hagel has resigned after just two years as defence chief. Officials said the decision was reached in light of the threat from the militant group ISILS and the different skills it would require from those that Hagel was brought into employ. His resignation was announced by president Obama. He comnended Hagel, describing him as " no ordinary defense secretary" who had "been in the dirt" of combat like no other defence chief. Chuck Hagel succeeded Leon Panetta as defence chief in 2013. It may recall that US has been lunching airstrike against Islamic State target which many see as ineffective.
