At least 54 dead as Russian trawler with 130 aboard sinks in sea of Okhotsk.


           At least 54 people have been confirmed dead when a Russian trawler sank off the Karnchatka Peninsula. Sixty-three people have been rescued, many reportedly suffering from hypothermia. The remaining missing crew memberswere likely inside the ship as it sank. 78 of the crew were Russian, with others from Latvia, Ukraine,Myanmar and Vanuatu, TASS reported. The trawler was reported to have wrecked in the sea of Okhotsk, 330 kilometres west of Krutogorovsky settlement. Twenty six vessels are workingat the site to rescue the remaining crew members. An MI-8 rescued helicopter with four rescuers and medics was also deployed, ozmic.org reported.
