Turkey slams Pope Armenian 'genocide' speech.


         Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said "pope's statement, which is far from the legal and historical reality, cannot be accepted". He made the comment on his Twitter account. The statement come after Pope Francis describe the mass murder of Armenians 100 years ago as "genocide". The Pope said the murders were "widely considered ' the first genocide ofthe 20th century", The local reported. Turkey accepts that many christians Armenians died in clashes with Ottoman soldiers beginning in 1915, when Armenia was part of the empire. " To read these sorrows in a one - sided way is inapproprite for the Pope and the authority that he hold" Davutoglu said in televised comment. He added: "we would expect the religious leaders to call for peace.
