Heavy rain killed at least 9 in northern Chile.


          Thunderstorms brought the equivalent seen years of rain to Chile's Atacama desert region and caused deadly flooding and left nine people dead. At least 19 people were also reported missing after the terrential rains in the Atacama Desert. The government described the situation in the desert town of Chanaral as "critical".Fananews reported that President Michelle Bachelet cancelled her engagements and said she would visit Copiapo. The storms was reported to have cut off raods, caused power cut and several communications. The government ONEMI emergency office said Thursday that almost 61,000 people were without power and nearly 50,000 people are without drinking water.
