Iraq launches major offensive with 30,000 strong forces to recapture Tikrit from ISIS.

     About 30,000 strong Iraq troops and militia backed by airstrikes pounded Islamic State positions in and around Tikrit on Monday. Iraqi prime minister Al-Abadi announced the start of the operation Sunday. Iraq state TV Al- Iraqiya television said that forces were attacking Tikrit from different positions, backed by artillery and airstrikes by Iraq figher jets. The army officer said the force involved in the battle were from the army, police,  counter terrorism  units, a government controlled volunter group --the mobilsation units and Iocal sunni tribes opposed to ISIS.
