Mohammedu Buhari wins Nigeria's presidential election, defeating incumbent Goodluck Jonathan.

        General Mohammedu Buhari, a former military Head of State has won the closest contested election in the history of Nigeria. Incumbent Goodluck Abele Jonathan telephoned General Buhari on Tuesday to congratulate him and concede defeat. Mr Jonathan's defeat is the first time in Nigeria's that a sitting president has not won a second term in office. " This is the first time in Nigeria that a sitting president will be voted out of power using purely democratic means", said Lai Mohammed, the spokesman for All Progressive Congress party. According to Aljazeera correspondent Yvonne Ndege in Nigeria's capital Abuja, said Buhari was declared winner after gain 2.7 million more votes than his rival Goodluck Jonathan.
