US officials suspect that hackers in China stole the personal data of as many as four million people US Federal employees. The Federal Bureau of Investigation said it had launched a probe and would hold the culprits accountable, reuters news agency reported. A Chinese Embassy spokesman in Washington said hypothetical accusations were irresponsibe and counter productive. He said it was hard to track hacker activity across borders. The Office of Personnel Management said it had " immediately implemented additional security measures to protect the sensitive information it manages". The US government has long raised concerns aboout cyber spying and theft emanating from China.
