Report: Al-Qaeda militant leader in north Africa Belmokhtar killed in US airstrikes in Libya.




         Algerian born Al-Qaeda militant leader in north Africa have been killed in US airstrikes in Libya. The Pentagon said Belmokhtar had been targeted of the airstrikes but did not confirm he had been killed. The Libyan government said the airstrike were sucessful and killed Belmokhtar and several others in Ajdabiya, according to the Associated Press. Major  Mohammed Hegazi said two foreign fighters were among the 17 killed in the airstrike. Belmokhtar was a top militant leader who claimed credit for the 2013 Ameriras hostage-taking incident in Algeria, in which 39 hostages and 29 militants lost their lives. In 2012, Belmokhar was designated a Foreign Terrorist Organisation by the United State and a sum of 5 million US dollars was plaed on him for any information leading to his where about.
