Army general in Burundi says president Pierre Ukurunziza ousted in military coup.


 Burundi army general said on a private radio station in Burundi on Wednesday that president Pierre Nkurunziza's had been relieved of his duties as president. Mr Nkurunziza was in Tanzania for a summit meeting on his country's troubles when the army general announced the coup. But Mr Nkurunziza's office said in the evening that the coup attempt was unsuccessful, posting a statement on the president Twitter and facebook account. After the Army announced taken over, the police melted away from the street of Bujumbura, people thronged the streets in celebrations. It was not clear where the president was on Wednesday night. After leaving the Tanzanian summit, he did not return to the country and headed at Uganda airport, according to report. People in Burundi has been protesting on the street of Bujumbura, the Burundi capital to show their anger against president Nkurunziza plan to run for third term in office. According to report, Burundi constitution only permit the president to stay in office for first and second term only. The president was allegedly asked for amendement of the constutution to allow him run for term in the office. Many people had lost their lives as a result of the protest.
