Islamic State captures ancient town of Palmyra, home to UNESCO World Heritage Site.


 Islamic State fighters have reportedly captured the ancient Syria city if Palmyra after a fierce battle against the Syria government abd allied forces. As down approached on Wednesday morning, Isamic State fighters stormed the northern perimeter of Al-Amunuyah, where they were able to penetrate into the village. Syria State TV said government forces withdrew after evacuating most of the civilian population. Palmyra's 2000 - year - old monuments which lie on the south-western fringe of the modern city, were put on UNSECO' World Heritage in danger list 2013.
