German city evacuates 20,000 people to defuse World war II bomb.

About 20,000 people have been evacuated in the city of Cologne, Germany, in attempt to defuse a one -ton American World war two bomb. It was the largest evacuation in the German city since 1945. The unexpected US -made bomb, which lay five metres underground and was discovered Friday, was set to be defused later in the day, AFP reported. Some schools in the area are closed. Bridges, streets, trians, boats have been blocked, cancelled or rerouted. It is not unusual for unexpected bombs to be discovered in Germany. Allied bombers targeted Cologne in WWII. Hundreds of police, firefighters ad other helpers were involved in clearing the site for the city's largest evacuation since the end of the war.
